Softening Hearts

I have a rebellious, teenage son who just left for college.  As a part of what he is struggling with, he has thought that he no longer needs parents, nor contact with his family.  (Of course, he also thought food would magically appear on his plate as well.)  We told him we would still maintain contact, but would give him some space as well.  We asked him to contact us when he was ready, and we would love to set up a bi-monthly Skype session so we could see and talk with him.  It took 5 weeks, but the call finally came.  He is ready to “check in” via Skype every 2 weeks.  It could have been much worse.
